Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Houston Texans: Something out of a movie!

The Houston Texans return to NRG Stadium after a disappointing loss last week against the Panthers. Today, the Texans faced another AFC South opponent. Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Both sides are needing a win with having the same record of 3 and 4. Either team can still be in the fight for their respective division and the playoffs with a victory today. Today’s matchup is very even and could be down to whoever has the football to win. Tampa Bay has been on a rough 3 game-losing streak, while the Texans lost a tough game to the Panthers last week. Adding all those factors, no one knew this game would be one for the ages.

Houston opened up the first drive with some nice plays from OC Bobby Slowik but was stopped abruptly by a Dalton Schultz fumble to set the Buccaneers in scoring position. After the field goal, Houston performed another great offensive drive leading to a Nico Collins touchdown. Tampa Bay didn’t take it lying down, the Buccaneers answered with their touchdown to take the lead. It seemed like both offenses had one thing in mind, find the endzone. The running game from both teams did not show up in today’s game, forcing both Baker Mayfield and CJ Stroud to show what they are made of. After the Buccaneers took the lead in the second quarter, Houston seemed a little off. From Bobby Slowik making two questionable calls in the Texan’s 10-yard line to CJ Stroud not making the throws he normally makes week in and week out. If only that was the end of the Texan’s downfall. Head coach Demeco Ryans ended the game with some head-scratching game management calls and kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn seemed to injure his quad on the last kickoff. The Big question going into halftime is, can Demeco and the company settle down and adjust the game plan?

Coming out of halftime, the deck was stacked against the Texans already. Kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn was ruled out, which led to backup running back Dare Ogunbowale acting as kicker for the rest of the game. Tampa Bay extended their lead by opening the second half with a field goal. Scrolling through social media, one would think that Texans fans have given up all hope of getting the victory today. Well, if you scroll through now, you will see the excitement and appreciation fans have for rookie quarterback CJ Stroud. Whatever Demeco and company told the team at half, worked. CJ Stroud settled down and delivered strikes to multiple receivers. Bobby Slowik showed why is a candidate for a future head coach position, by dialing up an amazing scheme to help the Texans stay in the game. While CJ was dealing out touchdowns, Demeco had to make a tough decision and go for the two-point conversion, instead of settling for an extra-point field goal.

Seemed the consensus was that Demeco made the right call to attempt the two-point attempts to help take the pressure off Dare Ogunbowale. Texans completed 1 of their 3 two-point attempts, which made the game interesting. Taking the pressure off of Dare Ogunbowale seemed to help him have the confidence to kick a 29-yard field goal to take the lead late in the fourth quarter. With The game winding down, Baker Mayfield scored a touchdown with 47 seconds left on the clock. All hopes were depleted and fate seemed to have a loss for the Texans, CJ Stroud did not believe in fate. With already having an impressive and historical performance, CJ Stroud was determined to put the Texans on notice. CJ Stoud had 47 seconds to cook up an amazing comeback. With 4 passes, CJ drove to Tampa Bay’s fifteen-yard line with 11 seconds left. Demeco Ryans had 0 timeouts, and with the score being 37 to 33, a touchdown was needed. CJ Stroud hiked the ball, searching for an open option. Six seconds on the clock CJ Stroud threw the ball to find rookie receiver Tank Dell in the endzone to take the lead!

CJ Stroud not only led the Texans with a historical comeback, but he also broke multiple rookie records. Stroud is now the new record holder for most passing yards in a single game (470) and tied for most for the most single-game touchdowns (five). Everyone, including CJ Stroud’s teammates, knows CJ was the right pick at number 2 overall.

I became a fan of football after discovering a VHS tape of Earl Campbell bulldozering grown men over! With Earl being a player of the Oilers and also the team of my hometown, Houston, I became a fan of the Oilers. Sadly in 1998 they relocated to Tennessee and became the Titans. For a short span I was a fan of players until 2002, the NFL newest expansion team, Houston Texans was formed. I dedicated myself as a Texans fan and have been since. I will always be a fan of Demeco Ryans, Andre Johnson, JJ Watt, Matt Schaub and Jon Simon.
