The Tennessee Titans wide receiver room is a mess. Everyone knows this. The website nflspinzone.com ranked our receiver group as the worst in the league and I happen to agree with them, which is why I am puzzled as to why we have not tried harder to correct the problem.
In the headline I said Chris Moore is the Savior of the WR room. I said this because Head Coach Mike Vrabel, who was a linebacker in the league, had more touchdown receptions than the whole receiver room combined. Burks has one, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine has 7, and the rest of the group has 0. Chris Moore has 10 receiving touchdowns in his career, the exact same amount as Vrabel.
This is really concerning, considering how nonchalant they are about trying to pick up anyone else. I know that there is not a bunch of options out there, but you can’t tell me a D.J. Chark or a J.J. Smith-Schuster doesn’t make this room better. Earlier in the off-season, I said we should be looking at Hakeem Butler and it appears he is headed to the Steelers. We need to be looking at all avenues.
Mike Vrabel is one of the better head coaches in the NFL and getting his players to play at their peak level is what makes him such a great coach. However, he is known for getting the most out of defensive players. He is a defensive minded coach as he played mostly defense in his career. Only lining up occasionally as an eligible receiver as a tight end.
We have always relied heavily on Derrick Henry and the run game in general but, if we go into this season with the wide receiver group we have, defenses will just pile on Derrick Henry until these guys can prove that they are better than everyone thinks.
