This past Saturday, October 28, 2023, I threw a big 45th surprise birthday party for my wife, Holly. I had never put together a party of this magnitude and I was expecting about 40 people to attend. This party was a couple of months in the making, and it took a lot of coordination just to keep it a surprise, but I pulled it off somehow.
One of my best friends, Ed, is a huge Saints fan and had already planned to attend the Colts game with me. Ed and I were incoming freshmen at Ole Miss in 1993. We became instant friends and were roommates at one point. It was convenient that the game fell on the same weekend of my wife’s party, so Ed could attend both the game and my wife’s party.
So why am I writing about my wife’s party and Ed attending the Colts vs. Saints game? Well, Ed has been to a few Colts games, all of which have been Colts losses. Ed’s first Colts game was a September 7, 2014, 24-31 loss at Denver. He was here for Steelers games on November 24, 2016, and November 28, 2022, both of which were losses. He was here for Saints games on October 25, 2015, and October 29, 2023, and both were losses as well. So, the Colts are 0 and 6 with Ed in attendance. Is it all on Ed, me, or have the Colts been just that bad?
The last time the Colts beat the Saints was on Thursday, September 6, 2007, and with the most recent loss to the Saints on Sunday, October 29, 2023, that means about 5898 days since the last time the Colts beat the Saints. In that 2007, 41-20 win versus the Saints, the quarterbacks were Peyton Manning and Drew Brees. Manning passed for 288 yards with 3 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. Brees passed for 192 yards with 0 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.
Now that I think about it, Ed is traveling with me to Frankfurt, Germany to watch the Colts take on the Patriots. Will the Colts finally win a game with Ed in attendance?
