Colts rally but fell short to the Rams

After being down 23-0 in the first half. Rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson and the Colts rallied in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 23-23 but it wasn’t enough to come away with the victory. Rams won the coin toss in overtime and scored on the first possession to pick up a 29-23 win over the Colts.

It was a tail of two halves for both teams as Matthew Stafford (27/40 319 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception) got it going early connecting on a big gain to rookie wide receiver Puka Nacua before running back Kyren Williams took a hand off from Stafford at the 1-yard line in for a touchdown. Williams finished the game with 25 carries for 102 yards and a touchdown. Colts’ secondary had a rough time defending Nacua, who had himself a game finished with 9 catches for 163 receiving yards and the clinching touchdown that won the game iin overtime.

Richardson and the Colts, who had a rough first half went on a 23 unanswered point run in the second half to force overtime. Although, it wasn’t enough to win, the team showed how resilient they are. In the three games Richardson played in, he has shown flashes of why the Colts selected him with the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft.

Richardson threw for 200 passing yards and two touchdowns with only 11 completed passes. He also had 10 carries for 56 yards and a touchdown, which made him the first quarterback in NFL history to score a rushing touchdown in each of his first three games.

Next up, the Colts welcome the Tennessee Titans to Lucas Oil stadium. The Titans enter the game winners of the last five matchups but they haven’t face this team led by new head coach Shane Steichen. In four games, Steichen has shown he can put players in the best position to succeed in his offense. This could be a problem for the Titans because they don’t know who to game plan for on Sunday.

On Tuesday, the Colts announced all-pro running back Jonathan Taylor will practice with the team this week and the team will have 21 days to activate him off the pup list. It is unclear if Taylor will suit up this Sunday for the first time this season but Steichen said there could be a chance, which will give the Colts a huge boost on offense adding the 2021 rushing champion to the mix. Either way, the Colts are preparing themselves for another battle with an AFC South opponent.

I began to watch the Colts when former Colts running back Marshall Faulk was the running back and Jim Harbaugh was the starting QB. It wasn’t until 1998 when Peyton Manning was selected with the first overall pick of the 1998 NFL draft, which solidified me as a fan of the Indianapolis Colts. I frequently travel to home games in Indianapolis and away games just so I could support my beloved team. Two of my greatest accomplishments are engaging with Colts fans on a Facebook group I created called “Horseshoe Mob” back in 2018. My other accomplishment is starting a podcast called “You Don’t Know JAC” with Chris Jackson and Austin Cook, which we have now renamed “Horseshoe Mob”. At the time I started the podcast, I had no idea it would start a brotherhood that would last for a lifetime.
